Best perch design?

Redesigning my loft interior and looking at different perch styles.

Currently have horizontal dowel perches but they’re always fighting over spots. Thinking about V-perches or box perches instead.

What style do you use and why?

V-perches are my go-to for widowhood cocks. Each bird gets his own spot, no fighting.

The angled design also means droppings fall to the floor instead of on the bird below.

Only downside - takes more space than horizontal perches. But worth it for peace in the loft.

I use box perches for my stock birds. Basically small individual boxes on the wall, open front.

Advantages:

  • Total separation
  • Each bird has “territory”
  • Easy to close off individual boxes when needed

Downsides:

  • More expensive to build
  • Harder to clean
  • Takes wall space

Combination works best for me.

V-perches for racers in the flying section. Box perches for breeding pairs. Simple dowels in the young bird section where numbers change constantly.

Different sections, different needs.
