Bought some 2 year old birds from another fancier. Can I actually race these or will they just fly back to their old home?
How does settling work with adults?
Adult birds CAN be raced from a new home but settling is harder than youngsters.
Method:
- Confine 8-12 weeks minimum (longer than YBs)
- Settling cage daily
- First releases in small groups with your established birds
- Start training from very short distances
Some adults resettle perfectly. Others never fully commit and try to return to old home. You won’t know until you try.
