Planning loft flooring. Options I’m considering:
- Concrete
- Wood
- Wire grates
- Deep litter system
Pros and cons of each?
Quick summary:
Concrete: Easy to clean, cold in winter, can hold moisture
Wood: Warmer, can rot if wet, harder to disinfect fully
Wire grates: Droppings fall through, very hygienic, can injure feet if wrong gauge
Deep litter: Least work daily, needs full cleanout periodically, can harbor parasites
I use wire grates over concrete pit. Best of both worlds - clean and practical.
