Never seen an actual race liberation. What happens? Who decides when to release?
How does the convoy system work?
Liberation process:
- All birds transported to release point in club transporter
- Convoyer (liberation officer) assesses conditions - weather, visibility
- Federation gives approval based on weather reports
- At the release time, baskets are opened simultaneously
- Birds circle, orient, then head home
- Convoyer reports exact release time to the federation
The convoyer has authority to delay or scrub a release if conditions are dangerous. Safety first.
